Tokyo Haneda International Airport
Tokyo Haneda International Airport (HND) is one of Asia's most connected hubs, linking Japan's capital to domestic and international destinations across the Pacific and beyond. This metal print captures that reach — built from real ADS-B flight tracking data. Each flight path is colorized by altitude across your chosen palette.
This print visualizes all 1,290 flights recorded on October 31, 2025 — the 15th anniversary of Haneda's return to international operations with its modern four-runway configuration. Printed direct-to-metal on an aluminum panel, it is a piece of aviation wall art that locks one landmark day at HND into a permanent, data-driven image.

Peak Hour Flights
ADS-B data captured on October 31, 2025 recorded 1,290 total flights at Tokyo Haneda, split almost evenly between 639 arrivals and 638 departures, with 13 touch-and-goes also logged. The 412 unique aircraft tracked generated 693,028 individual position points across the full 24-hour period, from the first contact at 00:00 JST through the last at 23:59 JST. Traffic was active round the clock, though the quietest stretch ran between 01:00 and 05:00, bottoming out at just 4 movements in the 01:00 hour. The morning peak hit at 08:00 with 88 flights, departure-heavy at 56 outbound against 30 arrivals. A second sustained busy window ran from 17:00 through 20:00, with those four hours each logging between 77 and 86 movements. Average throughput across all 24 hours was 53.8 flights per hour. Fukuoka was the busiest route pairing by a wide margin, with 104 combined movements (54 arrivals, 50 departures). Osaka Itami followed at 63 total, and Hakodate at 60, though the Hakodate figure was skewed heavily toward departures (52 outbound, 8 inbound). Of the top ten routes, all connected to domestic Japanese airports. Approach directions were dominated by WSW at 259 approaches, followed by NNE at 89 and W at 83. Departures showed a similar WSW concentration (235), with W second at 139 and N third at 89. The altitude profile peaked in the 0 to 1,000-foot band with 85,220 data points, reflecting the high volume of approach and departure activity near the field. Cruise-level traffic was broadly distributed across 30,000 to 42,000 feet, with a local concentration in the 39,000 to 42,000-foot range. The highest recorded altitude was 46,750 feet, logged by a Qatar-registered aircraft (A7-CGA) on a departure covering 325.7 nautical miles in 67.3 minutes. The longest individual flight tracked was an arrival from Hong Kong (B-KKD), covering 1,895.8 nautical miles in 259.7 minutes at a peak of 40,550 feet. Japanese-registered aircraft made up 317 of the 412 unique aircraft, with Chinese (26) and US-registered (20) aircraft the next largest groups across a fleet spanning 24 countries.

About the Airport
Tokyo Haneda International Airport opened in 1931 as Tokyo's first civil aerodrome, operating from a modest grass strip in what was then a sparsely developed stretch along Tokyo Bay. It grew steadily through the postwar decades, becoming Japan's primary domestic hub as the country's aviation network expanded rapidly. International services shifted largely to Narita International Airport after its contentious opening in 1978, leaving Haneda to focus on domestic routes — a role it filled with extraordinary volume.
The airport sits on reclaimed land at the mouth of the Tama River, just 14 kilometers south of central Tokyo. That proximity is its defining advantage. Narita sits roughly 60 kilometers from the city center; HND is genuinely close. A major redevelopment project added a fourth runway and a new international terminal, and in October 2010 the airport formally resumed scheduled international operations at scale. Today it handles both domestic and international traffic, with carriers including Japan Airlines and ANA operating extensive networks from its terminals. Several international airlines use the airport as their Tokyo gateway specifically because of its urban accessibility.
HND consistently ranks among the world's busiest airports by passenger volume. Its 4-runway layout — 2 on reclaimed land extending into the bay — allows simultaneous operations and contributes to the airport's high throughput efficiency. The surrounding area, known as Ota City, has deep industrial and maritime roots, and the airport's waterfront position means departing aircraft follow distinctive overwater flight paths. That geography is visible in the flight data: approaches and departures carve deliberate arcs over Tokyo Bay, shaping the visual character that makes an HND print immediately recognizable to anyone familiar with the airspace.
