John F. Kennedy International Airport

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) is one of the most internationally connected airports on the East Coast, serving as a primary transatlantic and transpacific gateway for the New York metropolitan area. This metal print captures that reach — built from real ADS-B flight tracking data. Each flight path is colorized by altitude across your chosen palette.

This print visualizes all 1,045 flights recorded on December 24, 2025 — the 62nd anniversary of the airport's renaming in honor of President Kennedy. Printed direct-to-metal on an aluminum panel, it is a piece of aviation wall art that locks a singular date in JFK's history into something you can carry forward.

About the Airport

John F. Kennedy International Airport opened in July 1948 as New York International Airport, commonly known as Idlewild. It was renamed in December 1963 to honor President John F. Kennedy, assassinated the previous month. That renaming gave the airport both its current identity and its IATA code, JFK.

Situated on Jamaica Bay in the Queens borough of New York City, the airport occupies roughly 5,000 acres along the western edge of Long Island. Its position on the northeastern seaboard makes it a natural departure and arrival point for transatlantic routes, and it handles a disproportionately high share of international traffic relative to other U.S. airports. JFK is a primary hub for American Airlines and a major international gateway for dozens of foreign carriers. Several of the world's largest airlines operate widebody transatlantic and transpacific services through the airport, connecting New York to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond. The airport's terminal layout reflects decades of individual airline development, with each terminal largely built or controlled by specific carriers rather than following a centralized design. This has made the campus sprawling and complex. AirTrain JFK connects the terminals to the New York City subway and the Long Island Rail Road, providing access to Manhattan in roughly 45 to 60 minutes. The airport serves over 60 million passengers in a typical year, ranking it among the busiest in the United States by both passenger volume and international traffic. For many travelers worldwide, JFK is their first point of contact with the United States.
